Director Q&A

What conversation do you hope this film starts between strangers?

I hope our film shows that the lives of others are not as perfect as they may seem from the outside, and that it´s okay not to be okay, it helps to share your darker feelings with others. And I hope the cockroach song makes you dance! (You can find it on Spotify!)

What’s one thing you learned while making this film?

There were countless things to learn! This is the longest film I ever made, so I especially had to learn how to work together with a big team.

Has an audience reaction ever changed how you interpret your own films?

It's always so lovely to hear the feedback from the audience, especially from kids! I´m always surprised that somehow they get everything,      they´re very good and critical viewers and they see way more details than adults! (sssshhh don't tell the adults ;) ) Adults often underestimate kids.

Was there a moment when you thought the film might fall apart — and how did you pull through?

The moment a camera on a robot slider went rookie and busted through our carefully crafted set!!! It knocked over some walls. Aaaaah we were so scared, but it wasn't as bad after all. We stayed calm, applied some glue and carried on.

If you could spotlight one unsung hero from your team, who would it be and why?

Only hero's on our team! But... I would say our Director of Photography, or cameraman Marc, who did all the light like a magician! So much time, effort and knowledge went into it. And also Maria the sound designer and Manna the composer, sound is always underestimated but soooo important!
