The winner of the Dutch competition is an impressive and powerful film by an idiosyncratic maker. Direct and hard, but also delicate, poetic and poignant. The film balances between raw reality and beautifully staged scenes. Industrialization versus nature. The maker of this film managed to get close to her characters in a creative and distinctive way, which made it a very intimate experience. A group of men who spend a lot of time together and do dangerous work, where they must depend and rely on each other.
In addition, the jury was very impressed by the cinematic qualities of this film. Supported by a strong soundtrack, this maker managed to communicate an oppressive atmosphere, combined with a rich palette of emotions, through the image from the beginning to end, without the narration dropping in energy. Congratulations to Katarina Jazbec on this extraordinary film.

Wenn die visuelle Herangehensweise, die auditive Gestaltung und der Kern der Erzählung reibungslos ineinandergreifen, ist man als Jurymitglied sehr glücklich, diesen Film auszeichnen zu dürfen.
Denn es entsteht eine kunstvolle Reise, die auf der großen Leinwand zu Hause ist und bei allen Zuschauer*innen etwas auslösen wird.
Mit dem Preis des deutschen Wettbewerbs zeichnen wir einen Film aus, der die Freiheiten des Mediums Kurzfilm selbstbewusst nutzt und seinen eigenen Rhythmus und eine eigene Dynamik entwickelt. Aber eben auch alle filmischen Mittel klug und angemessen nutzt, um das Publikum in seinen Bann zu ziehen und die Aufmerksamkeit auf ein wichtiges Thema zu lenken.

The jury would like to give a special mention to a film that stood out in addition to our choice for the winning film. An intimate film about a day in the life of a young girl who wants to grow up as quickly as possible and thereby copies her mother. The maker of this film has found a beautiful balance between the rawness of the world around the main character and the playfulness that you would expect at her young age. In addition, the jury was very impressed by the strong direction of this maker and the performance by this young girl. An intimate coming of age portrait that touched us deeply. The jury would like to congratulate Ashan El Hamus with this special mention.
